SentinelOne FAQ

As part of our continued improvement of our cyber security defenses and work to comply with federal and insurance requirements, we will be rolling out a new piece of software called SentinelOne. This rollout will begin the week of June 12, 2023.

What is SentinelOne?

SentinelOne is the next generation of antivirus software which in particular helps prevent ransomware infections. This will replace our existing Windows Defender antivirus on PCs. Macs will also have SentinelOne.

Why is this important to Augsburg?

Ransomware attacks are common now and can result in days of downtime and hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenses – such as a ransom payment or enlisting a security firm to assist in cleanup. An infected computer (usually from a download from a phishing email) is the most common way ransomware gets into an organization.

What is the impact to me?

We anticipate that there will be little impact. However false positives can happen. You will get alerted on your screen when SentinelOne detects something and takes action. IT will also get alerted. SentinelOne can prevent suspicious programs from being installed or running.

What happens with a false positive?

Once IT is notified the event will be investigated and if it is indeed a false positive an exception will be noted and the application will no longer be prevented from running.
