IMPORTANT 2024-2025 TRAVEL GRANT INFORMATION
Note: Funds for full-time faculty travel remain restricted due to budget cuts to Augsburg’s Faculty Development Program. Because of this, the Faculty Development Committee (FDC) has updated the grant review procedure and policy to ensure more equitable funding for 2024-2025. Please see the priority list and funding levels listed below.
Allocation of Funding: To ensure equitable distribution of grant funding throughout the year, the FDC will review grant applications at four times during the year and will not review applications between those dates. A portion of funds is set aside for each quarter of the fiscal year to make certain that some funds are available for faculty year-round.
Travel Dates Need Not Match Application Dates: To make planning easier for faculty, the Faculty Development Committee has decided that faculty may apply for funding at any time of year, regardless of when they will actually be presenting or traveling. However, strong priority will be given to applications where the faculty person’s work has already been accepted by the conference or event. As a result, under most circumstances, we recommend applying for a travel grant after your work has been accepted.
Strict Submission Deadlines: The Faculty Development Committee has adopted a strict submission deadline policy, and applications submitted after 5:00 pm on the day of the deadline will not be considered. However, faculty are free to apply in the next cycle and may apply for reimbursement from an event they have already attended. But, please remember that there is no guarantee of funding if you have not been approved for funding before the event.
Round 2 Application deadline October 15, 2024
Round 3 Application deadline January 15, 2025
Round 4 Application deadline: March 15, 2025
Notification of Award Decision: All applicants will be notified whether their application has been funded (fully or partially) within one week of the submission deadline. All applicants who meet the requirements (e.g., faculty status, funding limit, purpose of travel) will be funded unless we receive more applications than can be funded each quarter. If more applications are submitted than we can fund, we will evaluate each application using the following Priorities for Grant Funding.
Priorities for Grant Funding: These prioritizations are not absolute, are not weighted equally, and no individual prioritization disqualifies a grant from being funded. These are only in play if we do not have enough funding for all applicants.
- Prioritize pre-tenure faculty vs. tenured or non-tenure track faculty
- Prioritize those who did not receive travel funding in the last fiscal year
- Prioritize presentation/original work vs. participation or attendance only
- Prioritize taking/participating w/students vs. no student involvement
- Prioritize those who have not received travel funding this fiscal year
3. $400: Part-time faculty presenting at the event or participating in a formally designated leadership role for the event/professional
Thank you for your understanding. Please contact OFD (facdev@augsburg.edu) if you have any questions about this policy or would like more information.

Professional Membership Reimbursement
Reimbursement for professional memberships differs depending on their type. If they are required for accreditation, then they are budgeted on a department level, and you would talk to your dean or school director about possible funding. If they are required to register for a conference and they reduce the cost of attending the conference, then they should be submitted as part of a travel grant application. If they aren’t needed for either of those purposes, then we don’t reimburse for them anymore.
