■  Several Updates Regarding Minnesota BOT Testing:

• The Minnesota Board of Teaching (BOT) no longer requires the ACT/SAT/GRE/Praxis I scores be taken within the past 10 years.  There is currently no time limit.  Keep in mind that the ACT scores must be the ACT Plus Writing which started around February 2005.

SAT recently changed the way they score their tests.  The new scores (and old) can be found on the link to the MN Board of Teaching website: <http://mn.gov/board-of-teaching/beaneducator/licensureexams/>.

•Minnesota Version of NES Now Available: As of August 30th, candidates are now able to sign up for the MN NES exam directly through the MTLE website by using this link:

• The passing score for the MN NES is 520 for all three tests (Reading, Writing, and Math):

The test is exactly the same as the National NES exam, it’s just that MN candidates are given 15 extra minutes of time.  Because of the extra time, the score rating had to be adjusted.  The same number of correct raw scores needed to pass is exactly the same on both tests.  The National NES exam is based on a 100-300 point scale and the MN NES is based on a 400-600 point scale. The MN NES scores will be available to view in Results Analyzer starting with the October 7th reporting date.

NOTE:  If candidates sign up and take the National NES exam after August 30th, they will accept the scores if they met the minimum passing score:

NES EAS Subtest Passing Score (on a 100–300 point scale)

• Reading=205
• Writing=214
• Mathematics=213

■ Paideia Program 2016 Summer Course Offerings for Grads and Undergrads: Looking for a summer education class to take?  The Augsburg Paideia Program is offering a summer institute, July 25-29, 2016 on the pedagogy of Paideia. Learn how to implement inquiry-based discussions with students at all grade levels and subject areas.

INS 255-A: Paideia Approach: Thinking, Talking, and Reading is a 4 semester undergraduate course that includes the Paideia Institute. The ECS 543 course can be taken for either two or four graduate semester credits and can be counted as an elective course in the MAE program. Register online. ■ 2016 MTLE Preparation Sessions: The TC2 Collaborative has organized a series of MTLE review and preparation sessions scheduled starting in January and going through summer 2016. These sessions include basic math review, in-depth math review and reading and writing support.

The mathematics support sessions are offered for any candidate needing a basic refresher on the math concepts on the test. The intensive sessions are for candidates needing more support in mathematics. You may take both. The reading and/or writing sessions offer support for the reading and writing subtests.

■  Advising and Admissions Up-Dates:

ACT+Writing and SAT Scores in Place of MTLE—Beginning January 1, 2015, The Minn. Board of Teaching (BOT) will accept passing ACT Plus Writing and SAT scores to meet the requirement for a skills exam in reading, writing and math. The BOT has adopted the following passing scores for these exams:

• ACT Plus Writing: Composite Score ≥ 22 and Combined English/Writing ≥ 21
• SAT Reading ≥ 510 and Writing ≥ 510 and Mathematics ≥ 520

Advising—Day students in their final two years at Augsburg may enroll in AU courses if it is the only way that they can graduate in a timely manner.  Registration forms must be signed by Vicki Olson or Peg Finders.

Students in SPE and ESL may switch from Day to AU to finish SPE or ESL licenses.  Day students who need to switch to AU to finish out their SPE or ESL licenses can maintain campus housing.

■ Attend the American Indian Education Conference: The American Indian Education Conference, sponsored by Minnesota ASCD, has added a student fee of $35 to enable education majors to attend at a lower rate.This learning opportunity will be especially helpful in supporting an understanding of MN SEP Standard 3, criteria G: “understand the cultural content, world view, and concepts that comprise Minnesota-based American Indian tribal government, history, language, and culture.”

• ACT Plus Writing: Composite Score ≥ 22 and Combined English/Writing ≥ 21
• SAT Reading ≥ 510 and Writing ≥ 510 and Mathematics ≥ 520

Advising—Day students in their final two years at Augsburg may enroll in AU courses if it is the only way that they can graduate in a timely manner.  Registration forms must be signed by Vicki Olson or Peg Finders.

Students in SPE and ESL may switch from Day to AU to finish SPE or ESL licenses.  Day students who need to switch to AU to finish out their SPE or ESL licenses can maintain campus housing.
