Here is a sampling of some of the best:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cmsw.mit.edu\/education\/writing-rhetoric-professional-communication\/teaching-writing-communication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MIT&#8217;s\u00a0Teaching Writing and Communication website<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>BEST FOR:<\/strong><\/em> Strategies for developing communication learning objectives and designing effective writing assignments.<\/li>\n<li>Includes information on developing writing and communication learning objectives (i.e. drawing on research on <a href=\"http:\/\/cmsw.mit.edu\/education\/writing-rhetoric-professional-communication\/teaching-writing-communication\/draw-research-students-learn-write\/\">how students learn to write<\/a>), designing effective writing assignments, and strategies for responding to student writing (i.e. suggestions for responding to <a href=\"http:\/\/cmsw.mit.edu\/education\/writing-rhetoric-professional-communication\/teaching-writing-communication\/suggestions-students-need-help\/\">students who need more help<\/a>). This website\u00a0is expansive and detailed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/owl.english.purdue.edu\/owl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) website<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>BEST FOR<\/strong><\/em>: A one-stop location when you&#8217;re not sure what you&#8217;re looking for, excellent student-friendly site for style guides with\u00a0examples and simple explanations of academic writing conventions.<\/li>\n<li>Includes thorough <a href=\"https:\/\/owl.english.purdue.edu\/sitemap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sitemap<\/a>, various\u00a0writing exercises, ESL writing instruction resources, overviews of common writing assignments, writing mechanics and grammar, visual rhetoric, and a popular <a href=\"https:\/\/owl.english.purdue.edu\/owl\/section\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research and citation guide<\/a>.\u00a0With\u00a0over 200 resources, this website is extensive\u00a0and frequently updated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/writingcenter.fas.harvard.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harvard College&#8217;s Writing Center website<\/a> \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>BEST FOR:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Student-friendly webpages explaining\u00a0basic writing strategies\/conventions that can also be connected to\u00a0class discussion.<\/li>\n<li>Includes\u00a0quick explanations on various strategies for essay writing (i.e. close reading, thesis statement, editing steps, revision), using <a href=\"http:\/\/usingsources.fas.harvard.edu\/\">sources<\/a>, and both <a href=\"http:\/\/writingcenter.fas.harvard.edu\/pages\/brief-guides-writing-disciplines\">brief<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/writingproject.fas.harvard.edu\/pages\/disciplinary-writing-guides\">detailed<\/a>\u00a0guides to Writing in the Disciplines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>READINGS ON WAC<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The WAC Casebook: Scenes for Faculty Reflection and Program Development (2001)<\/strong>(2005)<br \/>\n<em>by\u00a0Chris Anson<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-144\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/wac\/files\/2016\/06\/41Iktev4wML._SX336_BO1204203200_-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"41Iktev4wML._SX336_BO1,204,203,200_\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ansonica.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Anson<\/a>&#8216;s book\u00a0is a great place to start learning about WAC and reading about 45 real\u00a0student\/teacher interactions. Beyond reviewing the history and literature\u00a0of WAC these texts typically include useful\u00a0&#8220;Best Practices&#8221; in concluding chapters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference Guide to Writing Across the Curriculum <\/strong>(2005)<br \/>\n<em>by\u00a0Charles Bazerman, Joseph Little, Lisa Bethel, Teri Chavkin, Danielle Fouquette, and Janet Garufis<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-74\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/wac\/files\/2016\/05\/cover-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"cover\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>In addition to a historical review of WAC literature, this text summarizes\u00a0related pedagogical issues of theory and practice. Most helpfully, the authors\u00a0suggest best practices in program design, assessment, and classroom practices.
