{"id":797,"date":"2015-04-10T22:09:29","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T22:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/?p=797"},"modified":"2022-03-16T19:13:33","modified_gmt":"2022-03-16T19:13:33","slug":"education-department-newsletter-april-10-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/2015\/04\/10\/education-department-newsletter-april-10-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Department Newsletter, April 10, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-767\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/files\/2015\/02\/new-e1427485149836.png\" alt=\"New\" width=\"27\" height=\"27\" \/>\u00a0\u25a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">Advising and Admissions Up-Dates:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Testing requirements<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s3\">\u2014The MN Basic Skills requirement must be met by providing passing scores on one of the three test batteries (MTLE, SAT or ACT Plus writing.)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">ACT Plus Writing will be required for admissions into Augsburg beginning fall 2016.\u00a0 This is a requirement for incoming first year students.\u00a0 It is not required for transfers or AU students.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">The Department of Education at Augsburg requires evidence of taking one of these test batteries for admissions into the Department.\u00a0 Students must be admitted into the Department before enrolling in a 300 level class.\u00a0 It does not permitted\u00a0to take 300 level courses before you\u00a0are admitted.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">As of July 1, (POLICY CHANGE AT MN Board of Teaching, BOT) Augsburg\u00a0can recommend students who have completed our programs in good standing if they have not completed testing requirements.\u00a0 These students will receive a standard one-year license at the time that they are our program completers.\u00a0 They can extend their one year teaching license for three years.\u00a0 Within that 3 year period, teachers must successfully pass the testing requirements.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">The BOT is currently seeking new vendors for basic skills test batteries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Advising<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s3\">\u2014Day students in their final two years at Augsburg may enroll in AU courses <i>if<\/i> it is the only way that they can graduate in a timely manner.\u00a0 Registration forms must be signed by Vicki Olson or Peg Finders.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">Students in SPE and ESL may\u00a0switch from Day to AU to finish SPE or ESL licenses.\u00a0 Day students who need to switch to AU to finish out their SPE or ESL licenses can maintain campus housing.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\">If you have concerns or questions about the financial impact of this type of change\u00a0please contact a\u00a0Student Financial Services counselor <em>immediately\u00a0<\/em>about the financial impact of the change. As you know, the Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps is an AmeriCorps program that trains and places tutors in schools throughout Minnesota. Tutors earn: Bi-weekly stipend of $544 (full time; half that for half time) $5,645 education award for college tuition or student loan payments (full time; half that for half time). As VISTA members, they receive a bi-weekly living allowance, training and professional development, and are eligible for an end-of-service Education Award.
