{"id":1759,"date":"2021-03-05T16:11:47","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T16:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/?p=1759"},"modified":"2022-04-13T15:28:28","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T15:28:28","slug":"education-department-newsletter-march-5-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/2021\/03\/05\/education-department-newsletter-march-5-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Education Department Newsletter, March 5, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u25a0 <span class=\"s2\">Spring 2021 Field Experience<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> Reminder: <\/span><span class=\"s4\">This notice is a\u00a0reminder\u00a0to all students\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\"><b>who would like to opt into field experience this semester<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">that you must follow the steps listed below in order to successfully document your field experience hours for licensure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s6\"><i>NOTE:<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><i>\u00a0If you have already completed these steps, spoken with Stephanie or Emily about a different plan in place, or have chosen to opt out of field experience this semester, please disregard.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s7\"><b>Step 1:<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0Submit\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s8\"><b>one<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0of the following Google\u00a0forms, depending upon your individual\u00a0situation:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s10\">Spring 2021 Secured Placement Form<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s4\">This is for students who have secured a placement on their own through previously established personal or professional connections. We use this form to double-check that the placement will meet your licensure requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s10\">Spring 2021 Placement Request Form<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s4\">This is for students who would like Stephanie or Emily to find them a placement on their behalf. If you have already filled out\u00a0this form but haven&#8217;t received placement information yet, thank you for your patience. Placements typically take 3-4 weeks to confirm and have been markedly more challenging to find this semester.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s7\"><b>Step 2:<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s11\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s4\">Once your placement has been verified by Stephanie or Emily, you will receive an email containing step-by-step directions on how to document your field experience.\u00a0<b>Please read this email carefully as the process has changed from previous semesters.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s12\">Like last semester, students are\u00a0<b>not\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><b>required<\/b> to complete field experience hours or fieldwork-related course assignments for the Spring 2021 semester. <\/span><span class=\"s13\"><b>You can choose to opt in or out of field experience<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s4\">, depending on your personal circumstances, with no impact on your coursework or grades. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s6\"><b>However, teacher licensing requirements have <\/b><\/span><span class=\"s14\"><b>not<\/b><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><b> been waived by the state licensing board. <\/b>The board has not released any updates regarding field experience or student teaching for the 2021-2022 school year. This means that teacher candidates must still complete at least 100 hours of field experience <b>prior to the semester in which they plan to student teach<\/b> as well as other program-specific field experience requirements in order to receive an initial teaching license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s8\"><i>NOTE:<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><i> If you already hold a teaching license and are pursuing an additional license through Augsburg, your field experience requirements may be different. There is a limit for total courses taken as P\/PN: &#8220;the maximum number of P\/LP credits that may ordinarily be applied to graduation (24 credits) or as part of the maximum number of P\/LP credits that may be applied to a major (8* credits) or minor (4* credits).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p15\"><span class=\"s19\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-767\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.augsburg.edu\/edstudents\/files\/2015\/02\/new-e1427485149836.png\" alt=\"New\" width=\"27\" height=\"27\" \/>\u25a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\">Job Application Resource\u2014Teach MSP Connect: Teach MSP Connect permits candidates to apply for openings from over 20 schools in and around Minnesota. One is a high school English language position and the other is an English language paraprofessional position for the middle school. The middle school job requires a bi-lingual Spanish speaker.
