\u25a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Society of Women Engineers Sponsors Steering STEM: Steering STEM focuses on combating bias in STEM education and the target audience is future teachers. It includes a speaker from the UMN faculty, a panel of engineering students, a catered lunch, and some hands on experience with science experiments that could be used in a classroom. \u25a0<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Student Teachers of Color Grant Support Available: Minnesotans of color who are enrolled in a student teaching program are encouraged to apply for grants up to $7,500. These scholarships were initiated by House Democrats and ultimately made possible with $1.5 million investment approved by the Minnesota Legislature. The Spring 2020 application deadline is December 3, 2019. The TEKO staff meet our campers at one of our bus stops in the morning around 8:15\/8:30, spend the day at camp (on Lake Minnetonka) and come back on the busses around 4:00\/4:15. \u25a0<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Teach This Summer at LearningWorks: <\/span>The Breakthrough Collaborative mission is to launch high potential, low-income middle school students on the path to college, while also inspiring talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education. At LearningWorks, we achieve this mission by using a \u201cstudents-teaching-students\u201d model. During our 9 weeks of summer programming, 35 talented high school and college students work as teachers, advisors, and mentors for 120 middle school students from Minneapolis Public Schools. LearningWorks teachers are creative, diverse, intelligent, and highly motivated. They represent many academic and personal backgrounds, but share a commitment to students and closing the opportunity gap. <\/span><\/p>\n
