Reasonable Modifications
Augsburg students who are pregnant or are experiencing related conditions (including nursing/lactating) may request reasonable modifications by completing the Request for Reasonable Modifications for Pregnancy and Related Conditions Form. Reasonable modifications include:
- Breaks during class to express breast milk, breastfeed, or attend to health needs associated with pregnancy or related conditions, including eating, drinking, or using the restroom.
- Intermittent absences to attend medical appointments.
- Access to online or homebound education.
- Changes in schedule or course sequence.
- Time extensions for coursework and rescheduling of tests and examinations.
- Allowing a student to sit or stand, or carry or keep water nearby.
- Counseling.
- Changes in physical space or supplies (e.g., access to a larger desk or a footrest).
- Elevator access.
- A larger uniform or other required clothing or equipment.
- Other changes to policies, practices, or procedures determined by the Title IX Coordinator.
Required Reporting
Any Augsburg University employee who becomes aware of a student’s pregnancy or related condition is required to provide the student with the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information and communicate that the Title IX Coordinator can help take specific actions to prevent discrimination and ensure equal access to Augsburg’s educational programs and activities.
Employees should complete the Notification for Student Pregnancy or Related Condition Form to notify the University. The Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator will follow up with the student regarding their rights under Title IX and additional supports available to them.
Lactation Room Availability
Augsburg University offers private lactation rooms in 2 buildings on the Minneapolis Campus: Christensen Center and Hagfors Center. These rooms are to be used only by nursing/lactating parents. No reservations are required for the lactation rooms.
Christensen Center, Main Floor, Adjacent to Women’s Restroom
There are two private rooms. Each has an interior lock, electrical outlets, chair(s), table, sink, soap, and paper towels. The Christensen Center is open to the general public year-round (with the exception of school closures and holiday breaks) at 7am and is open until 7pm. After 7pm, those with an access fob can enter the building until 11pm.
Hagfors Center, 3rd Floor
There is one private room with an interior lock, electrical outlets, chair(s), table, sink, soap, and paper towels. Hagfors Center is fob-access only year round (with the exception of school closures and holiday breaks) at 7am and is open until 11pm.
