Pregnant Student Support

Augsburg University supports students in achieving their academic and personal goals. Students who are pregnant during the academic year are encouraged to contact the Title IX Coordinator for help and support as needed. 

At Augsburg, students who are pregnant will

  1. Have equal access to classes and activities.
  2. Have absences from class excused due to pregnancy or childbirth for as long as your doctor says is necessary. 
  3. Have the opportunity to complete makeup work and have exams rescheduled due to pregnancy or childbirth. 
  4. Receive services provided to students with temporary medical conditions, such as using a different desk, recording class lectures, etc.

Lactation Room Availability and Policy

In compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and in support of students, staff, faculty and visitors who choose to breastfeed, Augsburg University offers private lactation rooms in 2 buildings on the Minneapolis Campus  – Christensen Center and Hagfors Center for Science, Business and Religion. 

Rochester students are encouraged to contact Jeremy Updike, Director, Rochester Campus, updike@augsburg.edu, or 507-923-4210.

These rooms are to be used only by nursing mothers.

Location: Christensen Center, Main Floor, women’s restroom.

Room Details: There are two private rooms. Each has an interior lock, electrical outlets, chair(s), table, sink, soap, and paper towels.

Hours: The Christensen Center is unlocked to the general public year round (with the exception of school closures and holiday breaks) at 6am and is open until 7pm. After 7pm, those with an access fob (requested through the Department of Public Safety) can enter the building until 11pm.

Location: Hagfors Center,  3rd floor,  Room 343A

Room Details: There is one private room with an interior lock, electrical outlets, chair(s), table, sink, soap, and paper towels.

Hours: Hagfors Center is unlocked to the general public year round (with the exception of school closures and holiday breaks) at 6am and is open until 7pm. After 7pm, those with an access fob (requested through the Department of Public Safety) can enter the building until 11pm.

Reservations: No room reservations required. 

Cleanliness: Augsburg University Facilities Department cleans the rooms each evening but it is up to community members to clean up after themselves during the day.  If there are issues related to cleanliness, please call the Department of Public Safety, 612-330-1717 and they will submit a work order to the Custodial team. 

Please refrain from applying perfume in the space as some people have fragrance sensitivity.

If you have any questions or concerns about the cleanliness of the lactation rooms, please contact Facilities Management. For all other questions or concerns, students may contact the Dean of Students Office and faculty and staff may contact Human Resources.
