In 1981, Abner Batalden \u201836 established and endowed the Batalden Symposium on Applied Ethics.\u00a0 Since that time, his two sons, Paul \u201863 and Steve \u201867, and their families have generously added to the Batalden endowment. From the beginning, the purpose of the fund and symposium has been to “Foster learning in applied ethics… [and] make ethics pertinent to life in general, for example, in relation to war and peace, government, industrial life, responsibility to developing nations… and at times the lectures ought to relate to specific professions.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Starting in Fall 2025, the program moved from supporting a single fellow to a team of three, drawn from the different schools.
