We must be sure that we are meeting the needs of our students, as well as providing a premier level of education. Academic Reviews help ensure that we are working towards the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/about\/mission\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mission of Augsburg University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as keeping an eye to the future of education and the future of our institution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academic Program Reviews offer us the opportunity to measure our successes, as well as seek out areas for improvement. We must continue to evolve and improve, and program reviews provide us with strategies for the success of our students, as well as the success of our university. These reports are also necessary for our accreditation process and vital to the ability to meet and exceed the standards of an Augsburg University education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A Suggested Timeline for External Academic Program Review<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>6 Months Prior to Visit:<\/strong>\u00a0Department Chairs should start thinking about and selecting external reviewers.<br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*It is up to the Department Chair to contact the reviewers. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1xBbNw9Trwv-UxTzl8hpRXLpvxDDRkmKV1sAZnKFRhIE\/edit?usp=sharing\">sample invitation<\/a> for external reviewers)<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i><\/i><strong>3-4 Months Prior:<\/strong> The Department Chairs should be working on their program reports.<\/li>\n<li><i><\/i><strong>2-3 Months Prior:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dates for the external reviewers&#8217; visit should be identified.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><i><\/i><strong>1 Month Prior:\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report is given to the School Director and Assistant Dean of Assessment and Academic Analytics for feedback.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>2-3 Weeks Prior:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final report goes out to the external reviewers and academic administration (School Director, Asst. Dean of Assessment &amp; Academic Analytics, Provost, and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>2-3 Months After Receiving the Report:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department Chair should meet with the School Director to discuss next steps and then prepare an action plan.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1VdwYWDj2qDlaWnvc2tJnS4lOs06tuM8OoTig9uCGiO0\/edit?usp=sharing\">Sample Schedule for External Reviewers<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Frequently Asked Questions<\/h3>\n<p><b><i>How should we prepare the self-study guide?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information on the self-study is contained in the Program Review Self-Study Guide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>How should we choose reviewers?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">External reviewers should be selected for their knowledge and expertise in the program\u2019s discipline. It is generally recommended that reviewers are chosen from institutions that are comparable to, or familiar with, Augsburg and\/or have specialized knowledge in a specific area of interest identified by the program as a priority. The school director overseeing the program must approve the reviewers. Department chairs or program directors typically submit a list of approximately four possible reviewers (along with brief descriptions of each) to the school director for consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>What is expected from the reviewers?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reviewers are expected to have read the program self-study document in advance of their visit. They typically spend 1.5-2 days on campus meeting with students, faculty and staff. Reviewers are expected to provide a written report of their findings to the department\/program chair and the school director within 4 weeks of their visit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>How are reviewers compensated?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reviewers receive $750 plus travel expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Who arranges the site visit<\/i><\/b><b><i> and what should be included<\/i><\/b><b><i>?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department chairs should work with the Executive Assistant in Academic Affairs to coordinate travel and schedule arrangements for the reviewers. It is largely up to the department chair to schedule meetings with faculty, staff and students.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Executive Assistant in Academic Affairs will coordinate opening and closing meetings with the school director and provost. In preparing the schedule, take care not to overschedule the reviewers. To assist with the preparation of the final report, departments should build \u2018work time\u2019 into the reviewers\u2019 schedules so that they can debrief and discuss how they will approach the final document.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>What happens with the final report?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reviewers are expected to provide a final written report of their findings to the department\/program chair and school director within 4 weeks of their visit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>What should we do in terms of follow-up?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the written report is receive, the department\/program should meet to review the report and to discuss next steps. Within 2-3 months of receiving the report, the department (or department chair) should meet with the school director to discuss potential next steps and strategic priorities.
